The number of abortions reported in the United States increased rapidly after the Roe v. Wade decision in 1973, doubling to a little over 1 1/2 million by 1980. The number remained relatively steady at a little over 1 1/2 million through 1992, and then began a gradual decline to level out again at around 1.2 million after 2004.
